NaNo na-na-nana...

As I said over on Facebook:
"I did it, I did it!"
I shout to the crowd

Succeeding at NaNo
Makes me feel proud

Sadly, no one has mentioned the reference from which this little rhyme is derived. Then again, most people reading it probably aren't into books for the under-5 crowd.

So, yes, I wrote 50,062 NEW words for the month of November. And though it was technically a 'rewrite' it was no less challenging to pull off, especially when you throw a 9mo old, a week-plus trip into the mix AND NaNoTaskMistress duties into the mix.

I was cracking the whip for 29 others, though I'm not entirely sure how helpful I was to most of them.

On rewriting...
They say that's what all writing is anyways.

I truly thought I'd be able to lift whole scenes from my original MS, but whenever I tried I realized two things:

1) The nature of the story's plot line and elements had changed soooo much, the scenes, as-is, didn't work...

2) Characters, though intimately familiar to me, were reacting to the story differently from page one. By page 150, when I did want to use an established scene, I had to rewrite it all anyway because each of the characters spoke differently and behaved differently.

It was kind of weird.

It made my original MS seem so immature.

Yet it was sooo much more mature this time last year compared to the year before.
Reminds me of every birthday up to 26 or so, when I'd review the last year and see how radically my life situation had changed and how stupid I was the year before compared to now. Then I thought about how I thought that every year and wondered how stupid I'd consider myself next year.

I've pretty much stopped doing that now, thankfully.

I'm pleased as punch about my commitment to my writing without neglecting my child, husband or home.

Do I hear ABNA 2011 calling?? This is going to be Una's year, I feel it!

Also, it would be nice to post some of the witty/funny/insightful blog posts I've jotted down this last month but couldn't commit the time to writing.

All I've got to say now is...the Pink American WRITER is back!

Peace

A Pink American
